Woodlands Chase is approached down a leafy stretch of Sedgwick Lane to the south of Horsham. Before the ground starts to roll away down the hill you take a right turn and follow a track through the trees until the woods open into a large clearing. Our client purchased the site with a view to building four contemporary family homes amongst the trees.
From the outset it was clear that the trees were both the biggest constraint and biggest asset of the site, with the mature planting providing an unusual level of screening and maturity to the landscaping. Our houses were therefore carefully inserted between root protection areas, and the contours of the site, so that each sits comfortably nestled in its own clearing.
The ground floor of each of the houses has large glazed areas between heavy stone-walls, framing the living space with views of the surrounding landscape. Each of the houses enjoys a private balcony at canopy level.
The project received planning permission in September 2015.
