Morris Blitz Court London

Morris Blitz Court is a study in how rigorous environmental design can also be beautiful. Selected by Hackney Council as the borough’s primary site for a new Passivhaus development, it called for architecture that could combine technical precision with elegance and restraint.

We set out to prove that low-energy housing need not mean compromise. The result is a refined five-storey building where proportion, texture and detail work in harmony to deliver both performance and beauty. Through close collaboration with planners and a disciplined design process, we transformed what could have been a simple, efficient form into one of quiet sophistication.

Independent balconies and walkways, intricate metalwork, and curved brickwork at the entrance give the building depth and lightness. There’s playfulness too: a proposed slide linking the upper and lower courtyards emerged from conversations with residents, adding delight to daily life.

Set within the green surroundings of Hackney Downs, the new homes respond sensitively to context while meeting ambitious energy targets and real viability challenges. This project also holds special meaning for us — Hackney has been our home, personally and professionally, for over a decade.

Working with Studio ONB, Simple Works and XCO2, we’re proud to deliver a project that shows how high-performance housing can also be crafted, joyful and distinctly architectural.
