Habinteg have commissioned Archio to produce a ‘Vision for Quality Housing’ that encapsulates the essential requirements of exemplar, inclusive homes. The vision has been produced as part of the Delivering Quality Homes Pilot for the Mayor of London’s Good Growth by Design Programme.
This document will be used as an internal resource, and by design and development consultants appointed to work on projects. It represents a set of ambitious guidelines to support Habinteg developments during the commissioning and delivery process. The vision is applicable to all Habinteg projects, spanning new infill developments, larger estate proposals and the retrofitting of existing stock.
The document sets out five themes which are considered to be integral to creating ambitious and inclusive Habinteg homes. Each theme consists of three principles and a series of questions that act as prompts to support the delivery of high-quality housing. The document will be used in addition to existing design and planning guidance, and alongside Habinteg’s Wheelchair Housing Design Guide. Importantly it encourages advocation for accessible housing to be more widely adopted in developments across the UK. The vision has been produced as part of the Delivering Quality Homes Pilot for the Mayor of London’s Good Growth by Design Programme. The process to date has involved workshop sessions with the Habinteg development team to define what high quality housing means to them. There has not yet been the opportunity to engage more widely with Habinteg residents and stakeholders, and this has been identified as something from which future versions of the document could benefit.
